Paul Flynn that libel case.

Once upon a time there was an MP who liked to rant and shout and declare lots of things that were not true. His name is Paul Flynn and this boys and girls is the story of how he was sued and how it cost you, not him lots of your hard earned money.

You see Mr Flynn as an MP is protected in what he says - under an age old law - in the House of Commons, even if its how shall I put this, utter rubbish.

Had Flynn done that, he wouldn't have been able to be sued, but Flynn decided that he was going to stick his "facts" on his website and there is where the problem started.

He was asked to retract the statement.

He refused.

Thus the company sued his aged arse through the courts. From Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Flynn_%28politician%29
Flynn agreed in 2005 to pay out more than £36,000 to settle a libel action brought against him by a complaints handling firm that specialises in endowment mortgages. Flynn's solicitor told the High Court that the MP was retracting allegations he had made against Endowment Justice, a company that works on a contingency fee basis for borrowers who believe they have been mis-sold endowment-linked mortgages. Endowment Justice launched legal proceedings against Flynn after he criticised the growing number of complaints against handling firms. The company had previously held talks with Flynn over its concerns about bad practices at several complaints handling firms. But Flynn subsequently named Endowment Justice in accusations he made about the whole sector. Flynn agreed to pay Endowment Justice's legal costs of £35,450, plus £1,000 in damages, which the company has said it will donate to the NSPCC. He also agreed to publish an apology on his website.[4] Endowment Justice has since then ceased to trade.
Oh yes, I mentioned that he cost you some money. Ten thousand pounds defending himself in a case he could have avoided by doing some fact checking.

Now having got his facts wrong, having been silly enough to post it online rather than in the Commons, he then used your cash to defend himself in court.

A GWENT MP has defended claiming more than £10,000 in expenses to pay solicitor fees.
Newport West MP Paul Flynn claimed £10,565.30 in October 2005 for his defence costs after being sued for libel damages following comments on his website and in a magazine.

Newport deserves better than Paul Flyn
