The state should have your DNA by Paul Flynn MP.

Believe it or not actual comments by an MP.

Flynn fails to grasp why people innocent of a crime should have their DNA held by the authorities.
All criminals start out being innocent. The DNA database works well if there are millions recorded on it. Innocence of one crime is no guarantee for crime-free future conduct. I would be very happy to have my DNA on police files. I have nothing to fear because I do not plan to commit any crimes. Where is the harm of having details on file?
Oh where to start taking that apart? How about the age old and still with us concept of innocent until proven guilty, yes I know that was never popular with New Labour. What with them sending folk off to be killed by that nice Mr Gadaffi, attempting to remove trial by jury etc etc.

The old nothing to fear argument is quite frankly rubbish, give the state powers and some paperclip shuffling employee will abuse them. RIPA being a fine example of one abused by councils.

Then there is the potential for those in power to fit people up, strange I know but our fine police force have been known to abuse their powers and sometimes prisoners in custody.

Best of all, and by best I mean worst was his comment on the European courts telling the UK government to sort the mess out and remove dna held on folk innocent of any crime.
There will now be a stampede of the innocent and the guilty to get their records destroyed. The certain result will be that some future crimes will not be solved.
A moron, an utter illiberal moron. Maybe he would prefer a police state?
